I’m sure I have a husband,
And my daughter has a dad,
But so rarely do we see him,
Sometimes I feel I’m going mad.

Long hours, extra shifts,
Dangerous work, for little pay,
And yet he keeps on showing up,
Day, after night, after day.

Without him and his colleagues,
Property and lives are put at stake,
So he turns up despite the toll,
On families, this job does take.

For he is a New Zealand firefighter,
Whose job is to protect you,
And his family has got his back,
As that’s all that we can do.

Come on FENZ, do what’s right,
Give these guys their due,
Pay them fairly for the risks they take,
So I can have my family time too.
